The incumbent must possess a mastery command of the Michigan Academic Standards for their respective discipline and be a competent professional with in-depth knowledge of instructional best practices and educational pedagogy specific to the secondary classroomCRITICAL COMPONENTS - Major DutiesInstructionPlan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.Develops schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.Provide appropriate feedback on work.Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.Prepare required reports on students and activities.Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.Prepare classroom for class activities.Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.Observe and evaluate student's performance and development.Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.**Data-Driven Competencies**Deep understanding of how to use formative, summative, and interim assessment data to inform daily instruction.Competent at analyzing data charts to determine individual as well as class level trends, areas of strength, and areas of growth.Ability to create classroom assessments that effectively measure student proficiency levels as demonstrated by the Michigan Academic Standards.Capable of administering common formative assessments in alignment with grade-level team and/or content area team.Experienced in creating classroom assessments that effectively measure student proficiency levels as demonstrated by the Michigan Academic Standards.Skilled at designing differentiated lesson plans that address individual student needs.Provide timely academic feedback and offer individual remediation, small group, and/or whole group reteach plans.Enrich learning outcomes through the facilitation of tiered work stations and small group direct instruction.Familiarity with the content, layout, and data reports for the following standardized assessments: NWEA MAP, MSTEP, and PSAT8/9.**Classroom Management**Interpret and respond to inappropriate behavior promptly.Implement rules of behavior fairly and consistently.Reinforce and reiterate expectations for positive behavior.Use appropriate disciplinary measures as prescribed by the student code of conduct.Use positive language when addressing students.Circulate throughout the classroom.Maintain control of the classroom and students.Other Job Functions\ * Demonstrate preparation andskill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.Participate in appropriate professional activities.Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.Other duties as assigned. **EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**Except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule. **Employment is contingent upon satisfactory criminal background checks.**About Us:Our Promise To YouState Street Academy is a free, public charter school serving students from Kindergarten through 6th grade in Bay City, Michigan.
