Job DescriptionGeneral Fasteners Company (GFC), a full-service distributor for a wide range of fasteners and assembly components, is seeking a Buyer/Material Planner to support our vast customer base. We excel at providing great products, superior customer service, customized Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs, product testing, and engineering solutions for our valued customers. The Buyer/Material Planner is responsible for the day-to-day purchasing of material and products utilized by specific customers and/or accounts. This position regularly interacts with suppliers to manage inventory levels, coordinates with the company's Commodity Managers, and works closely with Customer Service and Program Management teams. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Process and work inventory management reporting tools including, but not limited to: Purchase Order Requirements Generation (PORG) and Transfer Order Requirements Generation (TORG), Days on Hand, Process Purchase Order Reports, Open Purchase Order Reports, Item Planning Expedite Portal, Quarantine Reports on a weekly basis
  • Issue purchase orders to the supply base, thru PORG and manually, as required
  • Manage the open orders board, ensuring system updates with accurate information for all orders
  • Manage elevated expedite orders and coordinate with the appropriate personnel to ensure minimal supply chain interruption
  • Coordinate with Customer Service Representatives and Program Managers on inventory issues for assigned accounts such as excess and obsolete material, fluctuation in the forecast, customer obligations or issues, inventory turns, days on hand, exceptions, etc.
  • Review new part number setups for accuracy-related to planning
  • Communicate and coordinate with Quality Assurance and Operations to ensure material is available to support customer requirements
  • Participate with the supply base to develop relationships and involvement in the Supplier Quarterly Business Reviews
  • Other duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES REQUIRED:
    • Demonstrated understanding of inventory turns, including how they are calculated and the importance of increased inventory turns
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Outlook and Word
    • Expertise with Microsoft Excel including the ability to do VLOOKUPs
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness while meeting deadlines
    • Self-directed and possesses a high level of productivity and personal organization; must be able to work without constant supervision
    • Excellent communication skills including verbal, written, and interpersonal
    • Customer-centric attitude and a desire to grow with & contribute to a customer-focused organization
    • Adapts to changing work environments, work priorities, and organizational needs
    • Plans and organizes tasks & work responsibilities to achieve goals and objectives
    • Interacts with people effectively. Able and willing to share & receive information while maintaining positive working relationships.
    • Uses sound judgment to make good decisions based on information gathered and analyzed
    • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressureREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
      • 3+ years of related experience in a buying/purchasing rolePREFERRED EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:
        • Epicor software
        • Fastener industry
        • Material Planning and Inventory ManagementPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
